In honor of Valentine’s Day, my love letter this year has to go to Trader Joe’s—convenient, affordable and oh so vegan friendly. This week I found so many new vegan foods at Trader Joe’s I had to say something! I usually don’t spend a lot of time in the frozen aisle, but this week was an exception. The very friendly woman at the sample booth lured me in with her Chickenless Morsels and highly suggested I investigate a few of the other new delectables. Needless to say, I was impressed. No, I am busting buttons. They’ve always been good at labeling their vegan goods with that handy little “v” and compiling the most helpful list, but they continue to expand their vegan offerings at a surprisingly wonderful rate. If you have a Trader Joe’s nearby, be sure to check out these newbies:
Chickenless Mandarin Orange Morsels
Pretty darn good atop a nice mound of short grain brown rice, served alongside a nice salad... perhaps a carrot ginger dressing. Perfect portion for two, zero leftovers. $2.99
Japanese Style Fried Rice
Edamame, tofu, vegetables — I’m loving this right now. Again, only $2.99 and the perfect amount of food for two. Throw together a little might miso soup and you’ll swear it’s takeout from your favorite Japanese spot.
Cream Cheese Alternative
Not too shabby at all, tasty in fact. And you can’t beat the price, $2.49! For that price I’ll be schmearing darn near everything, but seriously there are a lot of things that could use a little schmear: bagels, sandwiches, crackers, carrots. Plus there are no hydrogenated oils and they throw in a little extra calcium for good measure. Those folks at Trader Joe’s are so thoughtful.
True Thai Vegetable Panang or Green Curry
This is on the lunch menu for tomorrow, but I’m sure it won’t disappoint. Carrots, cauliflower, and baby corn over a little rice. What could go wrong?
Great post.
