An Oreo cookie pie crust is one of my all-time favorites! You use to find them readily available at the grocery store, next to the graham cracker crusts, but I have seen on in ages, so I set out to make my own. All you need are Oreos (accidentally vegan!) and a little coconut oil.
Oreo cookies crunchy consistency make it a great option, especially for a no-bake pie. It's similar in consistency to a graham cracker crust, but dark and rich. The perfect base for our favorite chocolate cream pie.
You could also use this crust as the base for:
- Your favorite vegan cheesecake recipe
- A decadent summer ice cream pie
- A minty grasshopper pie
- Peanut butter pie
- Raspberry pie
- A base for your favorite bars
Ingredients
This vegan Oreo pie crust requires only two ingredients: Oreos and coconut oil. I would use real Oreos, but avoid the double-stuffs or the Oreo thins. I don't think either would have the right combination of cookie and cream to make this recipe work. I would however, not hesitate to use the mint variety. I would even recommend you try it and report back! Any of the Oreo varieties with a dark cookie should work, but I would avoid the blonde cookies. I read that they do not make a good cookie crust.
If you don't have coconut oil, you could also make this with melted vegan butter.
Assembly
Making the crust is dead simple and only requires two ingredients and a food processor. The tricky part is assembling the crust in your pie plate, neatly. This takes a little patience.
Poor the entire cookie mixture into your pie plate and gently move the crumbs around until the plate is evenly coated. If you find you don't have enough, you may have a thick spot that needs evening out.
If you're working with a very large pie plate and find your rally don't have enough crumbs, throw them all back into your mixing blow. Crumble up 3-4 more cookies in your food processor, melt another scant tablespoon of coconut oil and mix it all up again.
Variations
Here's a list of ideas, if you want to try something a little different with your chocolate pie crust:
- Add cinnamon
- Add a little fresh orange zest
- Add a handful of pecans to the food processor with the cookies
- Add a handful of almonds to the food processor with the cookies
- Try using mint Oreos
- Try using peanut butter Oreos
