If you’re new to a plant-based diet, the holidays can present all kinds of obstacles and temptations that threaten to throw you off track. Mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, buttery rolls and pumpkin pie – the list goes on. We know it’s hard. Trust us, we’ve been there! The trick is finding ways to make plant-based versions of your old Thanksgiving favorites so you don’t feel like you’re missing out. We also suggest starting new traditions with recipes you’ve never tried before. Who knows? You may even find a favorite dish you want to add to your meal rotation all year long.

Whether this is the first year or fifth year you’re skipping the bird on Turkey Day, these vegan Thanksgiving recipes are guaranteed to fill the void.

    Country “Meatloaf” with Gravy
This is a wonderful recipe for feeding a crowd during at Thanksgiving. It’s hearty and savory enough to satisfy meat eaters and healthy enough to get vegans through the holidays without putting on those dreaded extra pounds.

    Butternut Squash Vegducken
This vegetable stunner of an entrée is a meatless take on turducken. Butternut squash, eggplant, and zucchini fill in for the usual suspects, creating a flavor combination that’s perfectly suited for the season. Bonus: It’s beautiful to look at.

Vegan Tofu and Vegetable Pot Pie
This dish delivers everything you love about chicken pot pie without the heavy meat and dairy products. One bite of the flaky crust and savory filling and you’ll be hooked! You can make one big batch or split it up between smaller ramekins for individual servings.

Lentil Mushroom Walnut Balls with Cranberry Pear Sauce
Angela Liddon from Oh She Glows never fails to impress me with her inventive recipes. This one is no exception. It also happens to be gluten-free and soy-free, making it a perfect main course for Thanksgiving guests with food allergies.

    Tempeh Shepherd’s Pie
A plant-based take on a winter classic, this vegan holiday recipe is a crowd pleaser. The tempeh adds a kick of protein that will fill you up and keep you satisfied. We suggest topping off each serving with a drizzle of vegan mushroom gravy.

    Native Wellington
If you don’t have time to prepare a separate main course for the plant-based folks in your family, you can’t go wrong with the Native Wellington. This elegant puff pastry is filled with seitan, steamed veggies, stuffing, caramelized onion compote, and rosemary and thyme herbed mushrooms. Call your nearest Native Foods location for availability.

What's your favorite vegan recipe to serve at Thanksgiving?

Vegan Dad's Harvest Pies are awesome! You fill mini pies with roasted butternut squash, other tasty veggies, beans, and cranberries and then serve them with gravy on top. Made them last year and will make again this year.

The country "meatloaf" sounds good to me. Have to give that one a try. I'm a fan of the vegan mushroom gravy also--quality stuff.
