    Make a Stellar Vegan Grilled Cheese: It's Easy Being Faux Cheesey

    I know what you’re thinking, a vegan grilled cheese is never going to be the same, but wait until you’ve tried these before you close the book on an American classic! Granted, vegan cheeses have improved tremendously, but the reality is most still leave a little something to be desired. However, with a little creativity it’s possible to construct a darn tasty vegan grilled cheese. I think the key is accompanying flavors, so the success of the sandwich is not all on the shoulders of the cheese. A nice bread, I prefer sourdough, and some fresh tomatoes and herbs. Amazing! Now just pair it with a steamy bowl of tomato soup, and you’ve got yourself some downright homey American comfort food.

    At our house we have two favorites: the Americana and the Caprese. And in my opinion, as faux cheeses go, Daiya brand is hard to beat. So gather your ingredients and start grilling!

    The Americana

    • Sliced sourdough or whole wheat
    • Daiya Cheddar Shreds
    • Tomato slices
    • Ground pepper
    • Avocado
    • Dijon mustard (just a smidge)

    The Caprese

    • Sliced sourdough
    • Vegan cream cheese or Daiya Mozzerella Shreds
    • Tomato slices
    • Fresh basil
    • Ground pepper

      I went with the Caprese version b/c I couldn't find the Daiya. My son who is obsessed for the traditional grilled cheese really liked this! My husband loved it! I added a little balsamic vinegar and some salt and pepper. Yum!

      Daiya is something of an acquired taste for sure. That said, their mozzarella shreds are one of my staple foods 😀

      Whoa...tried the Daiya cheddar slices for the first time on a grilled "cheese" . Definitely the best vegan cheese I have tried to date!
