This is a basic recipe for cinnamon oatmeal, and the cinnamon and vanilla add enough flavor to keep you from dousing it in sweeteners. Add nuts, fruit, or flax seed meal before serving. If you're short on time in the morning, hop in the shower after the oatmeal simmers and you've turned off the heat. It will be ready for you once you're squeaky clean!

Gave this recipe a go with some ripe bananas and I liked it. The oatmeal with the cinnamon and vanilla smells good, but can be bland for those who like sweetness . I also did not leave the oatmeal covered for 15mins so it was super clumpy, actually just right for me, about 10mins? I liked this recipe and is a good starting point for me to learn to make better tasting oatmeal. Thank you!

This is my go to recipe for my breakfast - I add dairy free vegan chocolate chips and some sliced almonds on top - good to go!

Hi! Looks like a great recipe. Just thought I'd leave a comment on the nutrition facts... I am very doubtful that this would provide 13g of protein per serving?

You're absolutely right! That was a typo. The nutritional info has been updated 🙂

Yep, designed for two 🙂

I tried this recipe before school today. Yummy! I've never liked oatmeal, but I ate a whole bowl of this with a small banana added in. I do think it's still a little bland, but that just might be my fault for not adding in more fruit---I don't like too much in my oatmeal. Also, I let it simmer for 3 minutes and then took it off heat for about 10.
Thanks! Next time in going to try less almond milk (I put a cup) and a pinch more cinnamon.

@Evelyn - Glad you like the recipe! One of my favorite ways to add a little more flavor is a spoonful of coconut oil or almond butter. De-lish!

Just a quick note on oats and gluten: Oats *should* be gluten free, but are so typically cross contaminated with wheat or rye, that most mass producers will not guarantee that their oats are gluten free.

I did what Shannon mentioned and it was actually really good.

When cooking oatmeal you should use 2 cups of liquid for every 1 cup of oats. It was also so bland that I couldn't finish a bowl of it.
I recommend making it with only 1 cup of oats and 2 cups of almond milk. After it has finished cooking add a mashed banana, walnuts, & raisins. Less clumpy, more nutritious, and more palatable.

It was a little clumpy - when I do it again I would change a couple of things: leave it in medium for 5 mins (per the box instructions) and then turn it off. Also, my kids added almond milk to it after I served it and it made it really tasty!
