Summer may be over, but my other favorite season is just getting started. Fall! While visiting the apple orchard and rotating pumpkin-based soups into my vegan meal plan easily land at the top of my to-do list, shopping for new clothes follows closely behind. After all, fall is probably the biggest season for fashion. Think about it: The kids go back to school, the temperature starts to drop, and the holidays are right around the corner. It only makes sense to revamp your look this time of year, right? Well, that’s the story I keep telling myself. And I’m sticking to it! If you’re looking for an excuse to add some new pieces to your wardrobe, look no further. I’ve done a bit of research and have compiled a list of four vegan fashion brands for a cruelty-free closet. The following companies have taken the initiative to design super-fashionable clothes, shoes, and accessories without the use of fur, leather, wool, and other animal products commonly used for clothing.
OlsenHaus
When Elizabeth Olsen set out to establish a vegan fashion brand in 2008, she had a mission to “merge passions for design, fashion, function and being a voice for animals…” Thus, OlsenHaus was born, which has become a leader in changing the fashion industry and the mainstream perception of what it is to be vegan. Check out the OlsenHaus online store for a wide selection of boots, flats, wedges, heels, and accessories, as well as footwear for men and kids.
Deux Lux
When you have a Chocolate Labrador Retriever named Dylan as your company mascot, it only makes sense to design products with animal-friendly synthetics. Vegan fashion brand Deux Lux manages to make handbags, accessories, and luggage look super edgy and glamorous without the use of fur, leather, or wool. Plus, the pieces last forever. I’ve had a Deux Lux shoulder bag for years and it shows no signs of wear. That’s a product I can get behind!
Vaute
It feels like we were just hanging our swimsuits up to dry and it’s already time to start thinking about layering up for winter. And, for those in chillier climates, it can be tricky to find a stylish coat that doesn’t contain wool. That’s where Vaute steps in! Spelled for Haute Couture with a V for Vegan, this vegan fashion brand boasts a selection of cruelty-free clothing and accessories for women, men, and children. If you happen to be located in NYC, Vaute has a flagship store in Brooklyn.
Brave GentleMan
From hats to shoes and everything in between, all that Brave GentleMan has to offer is guaranteed to be 100% cruelty-free. The vegan fashion brand also strives to only showcase items that are sustainably produced in fair-labor conditions. Instead of using animal products in its designs, Brave GentleMan utilizes “future suede,” “future leather” and “future wool.” You can learn more about the company's innovative materials and animal-friendly approach to fashion on BraveGentleMan.com.
Whether the season has you coveting a cozy sweater or a pair of sturdy combat boots, this list is proof that cutting-edge fashion is no longer synonymous with fur, leather, wool, and other animal products commonly used for clothing. I hope checking out what these vegan fashion brands have to offer has inspired you to complement your vegan meal plan with a cruelty-free closet. Or, at the very least, has exposed you to the humane possibilities for filling your closet with new and stylish goodies.
