    Welcome!

    Jan 2, 2012 · by Katie Koteen · Modified: Aug 25, 2022

Welcome to the launch post of Well Vegan! I’m really excited to get started and I hope you all are too. Just to offer a little background about myself, I’m a part time web worker and full-time mom living in the Bay Area. I started off as a vegetarian more years ago than I care to count. After our daughter was born, she had a glut of food allergies that encouraged our family to make the switch to a plant-based vegan diet.

Going from vegetarian to vegan isn’t a huge leap (apart from giving up cheese, mmmmmm cheese), but it still required a shift in lifestyle. For anyone starting out, I encourage you to go at your own pace. For some folks, like my husband, it worked best to wade in slowly. I’m more of a cold-turkey girl (pun entirely intended). My only reservation about switching to a plant-based diet was meeting all my nutritional needs. If you’re like me, you’ve known a malnourished vegan or two, but we’re here to make them the exception.

With Well Vegan, I want to encourage a community of bright-eyed, healthy vegans. You’ll find a lot of information on the site about nutrition and if you ever have a question you don’t see an answer to, please email me! I’m always up for some nutritional research. You can also check out the resources section for all things related to adult nutrition.

In the coming months we’ll be adding some resources for vegan kids. If you’re looking for more information on that topic I highly recommend the book Super Baby Foods for a primer on general kid nutrition, as well there’s The Complete Idiot's Guide to Vegan Eating for Kids, and Vegan Lunchbox for some vegan-specific resources.

Regardless of your motivations or goals, I hope the site provides you with a number of great resources to make a plant-based diet a healthy, enjoyable, and convenient part of your life.

This website is just what I was looking for! My husband and I watched "Forks Over Knives", and we are convinced of the health benefits to this way of eating (except on rare occasions for us.) This website will help us make the transition with our busy lives. Thank you!

      Hello,
just wanted to thank you for this helpful blog. I have luckily stumbled upon your website today, and I love it! I have been pondering taking the vegan plunge and reading your blog has made me realize that most of my food choices and habits already are vegan. I'm just going to have to consciouly give up cheese and yogurt! lol! and of course, be sure to have my nutrients met which, thanks to you, doesn't seem so daunting.

      Thank you!
